In this 4-minute video interview conducted at the 2011 meeting of the American College of Cardiology, Prof. David Erlinge from Lund University in Sweden reports on the progress so far in developing hypothermia as a tool to limit the damage to heart muscle from an acute myocardial infarction (MI). Hypothermia is already being used to prevent muscle damage during heart transplant and reduce brain damage in post cardiac arrest, and the potential for benefit in acute MI, based on experimental studies, is substantial.
