Seven-time Tour de France champion Mr. Lance Armstrong, a cancer survivor and internationally recognized advocate for cancer research, spoke to Dr. Sanjay Gupta of CNN’s Vital Signs at the recent LIVESTRONG Global Cancer Summit in Dublin, Ireland. During this interview, Mr. Armstrong discussed the stigma surrounding the discussion of cancer, declaring attitudes towards the disease an “issue of complacency.” He expressed hopefulness that as research progresses and people are educated on healthy living, cancer can at least be managed as a chronic disease rather than a terminal illness. Armstrong believes such education is largely the responsibility of our government, but ultimately every individual must make the decision to live healthier and reduce their personal risk of developing cancer.
