Integrating technology and the future of health: Insights from TEDMED

More videos from TEDMED 2009, produced by CNBC, have been posted exclusively to GetInsideHealth.com.

The future of health care,’ features notable innovators making predictions for the future of healthcare technology, in addition to discussing what it will take to fully engage genomics, bioinformatics, and nanotechnology into common medical practice.  I think you will come away from this video with a better understanding of how close we are to entering a new era in healthcare technology.

Of course, new directions bring new challenges. ‘The challenges ahead’ focuses on a range of issues impacting innovators in the health space – from questions of ethics to the challenges of innovating in a highly regulated environment as well as helping providers keep pace with such rapidly advancing technologies.  According to Eric Dishman, co-founder of the Center for Aging Services, “We still conceive of care like we did 200 years ago: we wait until you are sick and then we send you to a hospital to be well. So much of this innovation today is about moving care to the home or preventing disease from ever happening in the first place.”  I could not agree more.
